Earlier known as Samajik Suraksha Yojana (SSY 2017), the Government of West Bengal renamed the scheme 1st of April 2020 name to Bina Mulya Samajik Suraksha Yojana. This scheme merges numerous schemes developed for the unorganized sector to ensure benefit homogeneity. The scheme provides coverage for all qualified unorganized workers by the approved list of unorganized industries (46), self-employed vocations (15), and construction and transportation workers as notified periodically by the West Bengal government’s Labour Department.
The principal objective of the implementation of the Bina Mulya Samajik Suraksha Yojana is to provide social security benefits to West Bengali citizens employed in unorganized sectors. Another goal of this yojana is to provide the people of West Bengal with various services and amenities. Hospitalization costs, unintentional costs, and job support in the event of job loss are all covered by the plan. The program functions as a Provident Fund, and participants must pay Rs. 25 every month.
