Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme (Rural)
On August 15, 2019, in honor of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Jal Jeevan Mission program. Water connections have been given to 18.33% of rural households since 2019, according to the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Out of 17.87 crore rural homes, the government has so far supplied water amenities to 3.27 crore of those households.
By 2024, the government hopes to have installed a piped water system in every rural household. In order to advance the water mission, numerous states are cooperating. For instance, the Uttarakhand government charges merely Re 1 to connect people’s homes to water.

Objectives of Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme
The primary goal of Jal Jeevan Mission is to offer access to water in all of the rural states where people have issues with water. Fund Allocation Eligibility & Criteria
The central government has calculated that the Jal Jeevan Yojana will cost Rs 3.60 lakh crore to implement financially. whereby the government has set forth individually for the states of the hill area the fund sharing between the center and the state. which requires meeting some eligibility requirements.
- The Central Government would provide 90% of the budget share for the state of Uttarakhand under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and the State Government will provide 10%.
- The Central Government will cover all financial obligations for the North Eastern States, including Himachal Pradesh, in full.
- The central government and the state government will split the remaining area’s funding 50/50.
- The number of excluded states has been added, which modifies the constitutional distribution of revenues among the states. Household connection will be given additional consideration with a 20% weighting for rural areas and a 10% weighting for urban areas.
- In places where the population is more adversely impacted by water quality, additional funding will be permitted.
- Water supplied by the Jal Jeevan Mission must be fit for human consumption.
