West Bengal Chaa Sundari Scheme 2024

Launched on September 17, 2020, the Chaa Sundari Scheme is a significant housing scheme of the West Bengal government. The purpose of this initiative is to primarily target the tea garden workers in West Bengal. Thus, housing aid for all homeless people and low-income tea garden workers is the primary goal of the West Bengal Chaa Sundari Scheme.

This scheme’s nodal department is the West Bengal government’s Department of Housing. In the 370 tea gardens in West Bengal, there are more than 3 lakh regular employees. The majority are extremely impoverished and do not own their own homes; they are members of the scheduled tribe community. They are unable to build a home for themselves because of their dire financial situation.

The West Bengal government launched the Scheme, which offers homeless tea garden workers free-of-cost prefabricated houses. Under the Chaa Sundari Scheme, every eligible and homeless tea garden worker in West Bengal will receive a well-built dwelling. The Chaa Sundari Scheme houses are 394 square meters in plinth area. Every House Dwelling Unit consists of Two Rooms, One Kitchen, One Bathroom, and One Verandah.

The West Bengal government will invest Rs. 5,43,000 for every dwelling unit built under the Chaa Sundari Scheme. Only permanent tea garden workers who fall under the schedule tribe category will be eligible for the free house. Using an offline application form, qualified tea garden workers can apply for a free dwelling under the Chaa Sundari Scheme.

Purpose of the Chaa Sundori Housing Yojana

The state administration has decided to raise the daily remuneration of tea labourers from Rs. 67 to Rs. 176. The compensation of tea workers will re-examined shortly. While the BJP is calling for West Bengal to pay the lowest wages, the BJP-ruled state of Assam has not yet established a payment of this kind.

According to TMC, the state administration led by Mamata Banerjee is making great efforts to promote the status of tea labourers. The task of encouraging the return of three closed tea homes in the Dooars has been taken up by the WB state administration. The fund department has confirmed the reopening of the closed tea domains in Madhu, Bundapani, and Surendranagar.
