Sishu Saathi Scheme
Children in certain families suffer from neurological or cardiac conditions. Because the treatments for those diseases are exceedingly expensive and the parents cannot pay the treatment costs, the children are unable to receive treatment. The West Bengal government launched the West Bengal Sishu Saathi Scheme on August 21, 2013, to assist these households. Giving the kids free medical care is the scheme’s goal. Under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, the West Bengal Sishu Saathi Scheme is implemented.
The government has collaborated with three private hospitals – BM Birla Heart Research Centre and RN Tagore Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Kolkata, as well as Mission Hospital in Durgapur – to launch the free surgery plan. Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital, B.C. Roy Memorial Hospital for Children and R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital are among the government institutions with cutting-edge paediatric care services.
On the eve of “Bishwa Hriday Diwas,” or “World Heart Day,” in August 2013, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee introduced the “Shishu Sathi” project. The primary goal is to provide kids with healthy lives again by providing them with free heart surgery. With the idea implemented, it is hoped that the kids would enjoy a pleasant childhood.

The ‘Shishu Sathi’ project is the West Bengal government’s most recent initiative to provide treatment for children born with heart issues. Treatment costs are already growing daily. Furthermore, if it is centred on the newborn baby’s heart, it will neither increase nor shrink. It is conceivable for families living in the state who are financially secure to continue treating their children.
