The government of West Bengal has announced the ‘Matsyajeebi Bandhu (Death Benefit) Scheme’, which will go into effect on April 1, 2023. It will provide a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to dependant family members of fishermen due to the untimely death, for whatever reason, of a registered fisherman aged 18-60 years.

West Bengal Matsyajeebi Bandhu Scheme

The West Bengal government launched the Matsyajeebi Bandhu Scheme in 2023, often referred to as Matsyajeebi Bandhu (Death Benefit). This scheme provides one-time cash assistance to the deceased fishermen’s families. This scheme is only applicable to deceased fishermen who perform this type of employment.

Matsyajeebi Bandhu Scheme in West Bengal

The Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources, and Fishing Harbours, Government of West Bengal is the nodal department for this scheme. Only fishermen who have registered with the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources, and Fishing Harbours in West Bengal are eligible for this initiative.

Purpose of the Matshyajibi Bondu Scheme

The scheme aims to provide a one-time financial assistance to dependant family members of fishermen due to the untimely death, for whatever reason. The scheme would cover fishermen who died on or after April 1, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria for Applying the Scheme

  • Registered nominees of deceased registered fishermen are eligible to apply for this program.
  • This system only applies to deceased fishermen who work in this field.

The eligible beneficiary needs the following documents to apply to the scheme.

  • Domicile of West Bengal.
  • Any One Document for Identity Proof of the Deceased Fishermen
    • Aadhaar Card.
    • Pan Card.
    • Passport.
    • Voter card.
    • Driving License.
  • Death Certificate.
  • Fishermen Registration card of deceased fishman.
  • Self Declaration Letter
  • First Page of Bank Passbook
  • Declaration of natural/legal guardian in case of minor applicant.

How to Apply for the Matsyajeebi Bandhu Scheme?

Eligible beneficiaries can apply for the Matsyajibi Bondhu through offline and online modes. We describe both the methods below. Choose as per your recommendation.

Matsyajeebi Bandhu Offline Application

The candidate can apply for the Matsyajeebi Bandhu Scheme by submitting an offline application form.

  • An offline application form is available from the Assistant Director of Fisheries in the relevant district. Collect it.
  • You can also download the Application form, and take a printout of it.
  • Fill up the application form with the correct information.
  • Attach all essential documents to the application form.
  • Submit the Matsyajeebi Bandhu (Death Benefit) application form, along with all supporting documentation, to the District’s Assistant Director of Fisheries.
  • The received application forms and documentation will be verified by the fishery extension officer.
  • After verification, the nominee would receive Rs.2,00,000/- in their designated bank account.

Online Apply for the Matsyajeebi Bondhu (Death Benefit)

Beneficiaries can apply for the Matsyajeebi Bandhu Prakalpa through the Online Application Form by visiting the West Bengal Matsyajeebi Bandhu portal.

  • Go to fisherman login, and enter the deceased fisherman’s registration number and the applicant’s mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP you received via message into the applicant’s number.
  • Then, the application form will appear on the screen.
  • Fill out the application form with the proper details.
  • After filling out all of the applicant’s information, upload the self-declaration and the no-objection certificate obtained from other rightful heirs.
  • After you’ve entered all of your information, save and submit.
  • You can check the status of your application by navigating to application status.
  • At the next stage, you will be able to view or download the sanction letter and payment letter, if they have been amended.
