Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, promised that the beneficiaries of the Krishak Bandhu Scheme would be provided benefits of fixed income. The beneficiaries of this scheme will be provided financial assistance wherever they need it. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee promised that the beneficiary farmers of the West Bengal Krishak Bandhu Scheme would be given life insurance of Rs. 200000.

And also the crop insurance of Rs 5000 will be given to the beneficiaries in two installments. In the event of the accidental death of any farmer’s brother, he will also be provided the benefit of the sum assured.

About Krishak Bandhu Scheme ( কৃষক বন্ধু প্রকল্প )

The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamta Banerjee has launched the West Bengal Krishak Bandhu scheme in order to provide financial assistance to farmers in 2018. On 17th June 2021, the Chief Minister has now decided to relaunch this scheme. And it was announced that the financial assistance under this scheme will be doubled after changes made by CM. Previously farmers used to get Rs 5000 per annum but after the changes made by CM, farmers will get Rs 10000 per annum doubling its benefits. Through this scheme around 68 lakh, farmers will be benefited.

Overview of the Krishak Bandhu Scheme

Eligibility Criteria for applying Krishak Bandhu Application form

• The applicant must be a citizen of India
• The applicant must be a farmer
• The farmer should be cultivating the land
• The farmer should have his own land

Objectives of this Krishak Bandhu Scheme

Providing financial assistance to the farmers is the main objective of this scheme. This scheme will provide them (farmers who belong to the economically weaker section) with financial services and also give them insurance of rupees two lakhs. The chief minister made some changes to the scheme on 17 June 2021.

And after those changes, the scheme is giving an amount of Rs.10000, which was 5000 previously. The Krishak Bandhu Scheme in West Bengal came into effect in 2018 and by February 2021, 1500 crore has been spent on the implementation of this scheme. 

• Other than that if a farmer dies within the age limit of 60 years then under this scheme the farmer will be provided a death benefit of Rs 2 lakh
• This scheme will provide financial services and the advantage of Life insurance to the farmers’

Benefits of the Krishak Bandhu scheme

• Insurance cover will be provided to all of the farmers who die accidentally in the process of implementation of the scheme.
• A life cover insurance of rupees 2 lakh will be given to every beneficiary as per the scheme
• The crop cover Insurance of rupees 5000 will be given in two installments to the beneficiaries.
• 3000 crores rupees budget is decided for the implementation of this scheme.
• The premium for Crop Insurance will also be provided by the state government to all of the beneficiaries under the scheme.

Components of Krishak Bandhu scheme

We got two contents under the West Bengal Krishak Bandhu Scheme and those are described below: 

• Assured Income – The state govt. has introduced assured financial assistance to all farmers and farm household families under a single benefit scheme. It is a single digitized card-based identity for all farmers of West Bengal. The direct benefit of this scheme includes 2 further components:-
  • Farmers with 1 or more acres of landholding are entitled to get Rs. 5000 p.a for both Rabi & Kharif Seasons. In the month of June, 1st installment will be provided and 2nd installment will be provided in the month of November.
  • And also, farmers would be given minimum assistance of Rs. 2000 per annum on a pro-rata basis.
• Death Benefit – The families of the farmers would be facilitated with a lumpsum amount of Rs. 200000 including suicide, under this scheme benefits. The death benefit scheme is effective from 1st January 2019. All the farmers whose age is in between 18 to 60 years can avail themselves of new insurance policy benefits.
