PM Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya Yojana) 2024
The Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana offers free energy connections to low-income households nationwide, whether they live in an urban or rural area. Benefit recipients also receive five years of government-funded meter repair services, an LED lightbulb, and a DC power connector in addition to the connection.
Electricity connections will be made to those persons in the country who were chosen based on the 2011 social, economic, and ethnic census. Only those whose names appear in this socioeconomic census will be eligible for free electricity connections. People whose names are not included in this census can obtain an electrical connection for a fee of Rs 500, which they can also pay in ten easy payments.
Under this plan, around 262.84 lakh families across the country will receive electrical connections, with 207.14 lakh located in rural areas. Surprisingly, the government completed the task of delivering power to all disadvantaged households in just 18 months.
Purpose of the PM Saubhagya Yojana
A large number of homes remain without electricity throughout the nation. Even many individuals are living without electricity as they can’t afford it. The Central Government launched the Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana to overcome all these issues. This scheme provides free energy connections and lighting to low-income families living in rural and urban areas of the nation who do not have access to electricity, to live their life easily.

Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana Statistics

Ineligibility under PM Saubhagya Yojana
- Families with two, three, or four-wheelers or fishing boats.
- households with three- or four-wheeled farm machinery.
- Families with credit card limits over Rs 50,000 are eligible.
- The benefits of this system are likewise not available to government personnel.
- those households who are officially registered with the government in a non-agricultural sector.
- Families having more than one member earning over ₹10,000 are also ineligible for this initiative.
- Even in cases where family members pay income taxes, the advantage of this scheme will not be granted.
- In addition, a family member who pays professional tax will not be eligible for this scheme’s benefits.
- They will be ineligible even if the home has a landline phone or refrigerator.
- The benefit of this scheme is not available even in cases where the residence has three or more permanent rooms.
- Even with 2.5 acres or more of land and one piece of agricultural equipment, the farmer will not receive any benefits from this scheme.
Eligibility Criteria for Applying the Scheme

- A low-income family or one without electricity in their home should apply.
- The impoverished individuals whose names appear in the socioeconomic census will have access to this free electricity.
- Those, whose names will not be included in the census, can get the electricity by paying 500 rupees. They can pay the 500 rupees required for this in ten installments.
