Yashasvini Health Insurance Scheme 2023
A community-based medical insurance plan for middle-class and lower-middle-class workers in Karnataka’s informal economy is called the Yashasvini Scheme. To offer comprehensive coverage to farmers who are members of state cooperative groups, S.M. Krishna, a former chief minister of Karnataka, launched the Yeshasvini Health Insurance Scheme in 2003. It offers coverage to individuals in over thirty districts of Karnataka.
The Department of Cooperatives administers this initiative in conjunction with the Government of Karnataka. To provide rural unorganized workers inexpensive access to essential healthcare facilities, it uses funds collected by cooperative societies through the Yeshasvini trust. The Yeshasvini Cooperative Health Care Trust, registered under the Indian Trust Act of 1882 manages the scheme.

Yashasvini Scheme Implementation Strategy
At each Network Hospital visit, a coordinator verifies the beneficiary’s identification card, pays the enrollment cost, and authorizes the initial diagnosis. If surgery becomes necessary, a pre-authorization application is sent to MSP. Professionals look over the request. The beneficiary can have any surgery performed cashless, up to the predetermined limits.
The patient’s signed bill summary and any other required documentation are sent by the network hospitals to MSP for processing of claims. After receiving the invoices, the Yeshasvini Health Insurance Scheme Trust pays the network hospitals through MSP within 45 days.
Implementing Steps for the Yashasvini Health Insurance Scheme
730 network hospitals connected to the trust are implementing the Yeshasvini Health Insurance Scheme. Included are both private and state hospitals. The trust grants the network hospitals permission to offer healthcare services in accordance with the empanelment guidelines.
The Management Support Service Provider (MSP) arranges for cashless healthcare through these 730 network facilities. The Yeshasvini Health Insurance Scheme is implemented through the following steps.
- The Yeshasvini beneficiary visits a network hospital that the trust approves and acknowledges.
- A UHID card will be examined by a network hospital coordinating officer for the beneficiary.
- There is a fee for the enrolling party.
- After that, the patient has to undergo a preliminary diagnosis and a few basic medical tests.
- Based on the first diagnosis, the network hospital will send the MSP an online request for pre-authorization along with any necessary supporting documentation.
- The doctors selected by the MSP will review the request, and the following day, approval will be given.
- The network hospital will honor the program’s limitations while providing the beneficiary with cashless care.
- After the patient is discharged, the network hospital will submit the MSP the original bills, discharge summary, and other medical information to pay the claim.
- The trust will settle the claim with the network hospital through the MSP within 45 days of receiving the documentation.
