With this motto, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched the Kanyashree Prakalpa in 2013 for schooling-going girls. After completing schooling there are so many girls dropped out of their studies due to financial problems. The project has been launched by the West Bengal government to prevent girls below the age of 18 from getting married. This project aims to show that girls from poor families do not stop studying due to a lack of money. If any girl doesn’t marry for 18 years and continues her studies, they will get a one-time grant of Rs. 25,000.

Higher education and delayed marriage are the main objectives of Kanyashree Prakalpa. A direct benefit that can be achieved by this scheme can reduction of child marriage. Economically weaker parents cannot afford higher studies for their girl child and end up with marriage at a very early age. So the government has launched this for those who are continuing their study till the 12th without getting married.

West Bengal Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme (পশ্চিমবঙ্গ কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্প ) Incentives

1) All the girls who are in the age group of 13 to 18 years, i.e. from 8th class to 12th class, will get a grant of Rs. 750 per annum from the government. This project can be called K-one for short.

2) If a girl does not want to marry after 12th class, i.e. adulthood, and wants to continue her studies instead or choose the path of self-reliance, then the government will give her a one-time grant of Rs. 25,000. This money they can use to study or include themselves in a course to open their way of earning. This project is known as K-Two.

3) There is also the K3 project. It will cover mainly science and art students. In that case, they will get an allowance every month. Science students under K-three will get Rs 2,500 per month and art students will get Rs 2,000 per month.

Eligibility Criteria for Kanyashree Prakalpa (কন্যাশ্রী প্রকল্প)

K1-Kanyashree Prakalpa (Ages between 13-18)

• The age of the applicant for this project must be between 13-18 (before 18) years.
• The applicant must be unmarried.
• The applicant must be a student of class VIII to XII of a school.
• The annual income of the applicant’s family should be Rs. 120,000 or less.
• If the applicant is physically disabled or has special abilities if his guardian (both mother and father) is dead, then the income condition of the family will be different.

K2-Kanyashree Prakalpa (Ages between 18-19)

• Only girls between the ages of 18-19 (after entering 18 and before 19) can apply.
• The applicant must be unmarried.
• The applicant must be a student of a higher education institution (next level of higher secondary).
• The annual income of the applicant’s family should be Rs. 120,000 or less.
• In special cases, the conditions of income will change.

K3-Kanyashree Prakalpa (Graduation Students)

On 26 July 2016, on behalf of the Government of West Bengal, the Hon’ble Chief Minister announced this new addition under Kanyashree. Through this, girls will be able to continue their higher education if they want.

• Only those girls who applied for the K2 scheme and later registered can apply for the K3 scheme.
• To apply for the K3 scheme, the applicant has to pass the graduation level with at least 45% marks from any college.
• There is no age limit for this K3 project.

Procedure To Apply For the West Bengal Kanyashree Prakalpa Scheme 

• Before applying for the Kanyashree project, the applicant girl must have a bank account in her name.
• After that, the applicant has to collect the application form from their school.
• Fill out the application form with accurate information. If you enter the personal information, address, and name of the educational institution incorrectly, the application may be rejected.
• After that, the guardian must sign the application form.
• Submit the application form with the required documents to the school.
• The head of the department of the school will check the authenticity of the application form and then give a stamp on it. He will give a receipt as proof of submission of the application. Keep the receipt carefully for the future.
• If you submit the application form correctly, it will appear on the official website of Kanyashree.

Track Kanyashree Scheme Application Status

Once Kanyashree has applied and all the information has been uploaded on the official website, if you want to know the status of the application, you have to keep an eye on the website. 

• Go to the Kanyashree project website and keep an eye on the home page.
• On the main page, there will be an option ‘Track Application’. You have to click on it.
• Then choose the year and scheme type from the drop-down menu.
• You have to give your date of birth and application ID. The application ID will be written on the receipt received after applying. After giving the ID, you have to type the captcha correctly.
