The West Bengal state government has launched the Khadya Sathi Scheme. It is one of the West Bengal government’s poverty-reduction initiatives. The Scheme aims to sell or distribute rice and other food commodities at meagre prices to the poor people of West Bengal.

Under the Khadya Sathi Scheme, the state government has vowed to give rice and wheat to about 70 million individuals for Rs 2, representing 90% of West Bengal’s entire population. Approximately 50 lakh individuals will be able to purchase half-priced cereals. The purchasing price is usually half of the market price, which is insured for individuals with national ID cards or ration cards.
